| How to make a hole in a nylon, rubber, or leather watch strap band. 1. Use a hole punch, which will give a nice clean hole. This is the best method. 2. Use a nail(and hammer) that is smaller than the existing holes. The hole will stretch naturally. 3. Use a small philips screwdriver. Mark where you want the hole to be with something pointy, to make an indent to guide the screwdriver. Twist back and forth, at the same time pressing into the strap. This will drill a relatively clean hole into the watch strap. This is my favourite method for a leather watch strap, since I don't have a hole punch. 4, Use a soldering iron. If you don't have one, you can heat an iron nail(or coathanger) over a flame and use a pair of pliers to hold the nail. Make sure the tip is clean, and at maximum heat before using. This method is recommended for dark straps only, because the heat will make a dark ring around the edge of the hole, which would be invisible on a dark watch strap. Note: If the tip of the iron is dirty with traces of solder, the solder will be transferred onto the strap, making a solid ring of silver around the hole, but it can be easily scraped off.
