Koalas

I am only going to put a basic description of the Koala on this page together with a few pictures. If you want to learn more you will get more information than you bargained for if you click on this link: KOALAS
The Koala is Cute and Cuddly, and is Australia's favorite animal. It is not a bear as some people seem to think, but is a species all on its own (the little snob). They live mainly in eucalypt forests, but are also found in suburban back-yards where there are suitable trees for them to feed on the leaves.
Koalas are very popular with tourists because they are the only wild animal that can be cuddled with any degree of safety. The Koala does not seem to mind being handled, but I have a suspicion that they just put up with it to please these strange human creatures.

Koala painting Koala eating gum leaf.
This is a pastel painting I did in January 1986. As far as I know it is now in the USA, bought by a visitor to Mayes Cottage when it was being used as a Gallery.
Koala Koala
Another of my paintings in pastels.
Painted in April 1986. Pastels is a great medium for achieving the realistic texture of fur.
Koala Yet another Koala.
This is an actual photo of a Koala in its natural habitat. I don't know who took the photo, but I chose it because the lighting effect lets you see the length of the fur around the ears and shoulders, This is a good photo. Click on it to see a larger version and you will see what I mean.
Koala and baby Koala and baby.
This is another of my paintings, yes koalas do go for a walk occasionaly. This one is taking it's baby on a walkabout, they come down from one tree and walk to another to climb in search of food.
