Bricklayer
brothers, Frederick William and William Allner Nelson, sons of Timothy
Nelson and Elizabeth Pope Allner, left Dorchester with their wives,
for the colony of New South Wales in 1843.
Unfortunately
Frederick was never to set foot on Australian soil. He died
at sea on the 21 November leaving his
wife, Elizabeth Lockett, to face
the rigours of life in a new land with her young family. Frederick
is buried with his grandparents in the village of Piddlehinton
in Dorset.
William
Allner Nelson's wife died soon after arriving in the colony. William
and Elizabeth Lockett eventually got
together and spent their last years living as man and wife in Fitzroy,
Victoria.
