hamshere/hamshire/hampshire

Twenty-six year old James Hamshere, a labourer from Shamley Green in England, travelled to New South Wales on Fairlea in 1863.  His sister, Adelaide, had already married and settled in Sydney with her husband John Stephens.

James married Elizabeth Ann Clark (c1836-1925) in 1864 at St. James Church of England in Sydney.  They raised their large family in Botany Street, Waterloo.

Christ Church, Shamley Green, has a number of Hamshire graves
