Frank Duncan Jnr. in his car at Cobar

James Duncan, a Scotsman, was the father of my great-grandfather, Francis Duncan, born in Moonee Ponds, Victoria around 1852.  James was married to Mary Cligan/Cregan/Creigan/Gregson from Eniskillen, Ireland in Melbourne in 1853. Whether James and Mary arrived in the colony as free settlers or courtesy of the government is unclear.

My visit to James' home town of Aberdeen, Scotland did not assist with any clues to James' heritage.

Although Francis never married he had two children, Frank and Elsie May Duncan, by Harriet Holmes (nee Magick).  Frank Jnr. married Ethel Chatfield (nee Pusell) in 1922 in Cobar where they raised their son and five daughters.  The family moved to Sydney, settling in Kensington, in the 1940s.
