Reunion 2004 - Adealide

The Adelaidians are suggesting that for the 2004 reunion, we spend a leisurely and lazy weekend at the quaint village of Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills. Hahndorf has a very German heritage and this heritage has been maintained. Hahndorf is merely 30 minute by road from the Adelaide CBD and is easily accessible. Hahndorf is a popular weekend retreat for Adelaidians and visitors from both interstate and overseas and offers a wide variety of attractions, none of which impose any pressure on those visitors that merely want to take a break.

We are proposing that we all stay at the Hahndorf Resort as it provides for all modes of accommodation, including:

·         Caravan;

·         Motel type rooms; and

·         Chalets.

All of the motel rooms and chalets are at ground level that allows for those with the wanderlust to walk around and share both tales of old and an occasional drink as the weekend progresses.

The resort has excellent dining facilities, the Heyson Restaurant, that is ideal for a special function like ours.

The resort also provides a number of recreational activities for those needing to expend that surplus of energy that most of us are finding less and less of.

The Hahndorf Resort with its dining facilities and accommodation is excellent. Oh, nearly forgot to mention that the bar facilities are pretty good as well.

At this moment we are suggesting that the reunion be held over the long weekend in October 2005 to give those of you from interstate that are lucky enough to have a long weekend the chance to enjoy the weekend without having to rush back home on the Sunday.

Proposed itinerary

Friday

Arrive Adelaide, travel to Hahndorf Resort in the Adelaide Foothills and settle in. We will provide assistance to those that travel by air.

There will be a general get together late in the afternoon to meet and greet.

We will congregate at one of the local “German Heritage” hotels for a light meal/finger food and a few tongue loosening drinks to kick start the weekend. The chosen hotel is only a stones throw from the resort so this activity will not require transport.

Saturday

There are three options available for the daylight hours of Saturday:

1.        We are proposing to arrange a bus tour that will take us to Goolwa, the mouth of the river Murray, where we plan to have lunch on an old paddle steamer. We plan to return to Hahndorf via McLaren Vale so that we can visit a couple of the many boutique wineries that abound in the area. We anticipate that this tour will return to the resort at about 5 in the afternoon.

2.        As previously mentioned, Hahndorf is a German Heritage village that offers a large number of unique attractions. The lazy way to spend the day, presuming that the day does not really start until about 10 in the morning, is to merely wander the village. Allowing for a leisurely lunch break in one of the many cafes in the village and perhaps a glass of the locally produced wine, this stroll will take at least 4 hours and allowing for travelling time will see you back at the resort at about 3 in the afternoon. Just early enough for a LLD (that’s a Little Lie Down for those that wont admit their age).

3.        The third and last option is for you to do your own thing.

We will dine in the Heyson Restaurant, that is part of the resort complex, Saturday night. Only need to meander down the hill to your accommodation on completion.

Sunday

Vic and Margaret Merryweather have offered to host a Bar-B-Q at their place in Christies Beach on Sunday. They plan to outdo that wonderful day that we had at the Slopers a couple of years ago. More details later.

THIS IS OUR TURN TO BOTH ENTERTAIN YOU AND SHOW YOU THE BEST OF ADELAIDE AND ITS SURROUNDS. BE THERE OR BE SQUARE.
