The
museum has recently undergone extensions and has enlarged it's
collection of farm machinery
and other exhibits.
Our museum is located at Whiteman Park
which is
situated 18kms north of the city of Perth.
Opening hours are Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays 10am to 4pm. The museum is
closed on Good Friday & Xmas Day.
NOTE
NEW WEEKDAY OPENING TIMES. The museum will be open
to visitors each day of the 2006 mid year school holidays.
School and other group visits at other times can be
arranged
by contacting the museum.
Whiteman Park entry is free and museum entry is by coin donation which
goes toward further restoration and museum overheads
We have approximately 40 tractors on display most of which have been
restored and are in fully working condition.
Included in the display is the famous 'Tail End Charlie', a modified
Chamberlain 9G that was used as a recovery vehicle in the grueling
Redex and Mobilgas 'round Australia car trials in the 50's, 60's and
70's.
The museum volunteers recently restored a 1924 Hart-Parr 12-24 tractor
which is one of only 14 ever built and is the only one of 2 left in the
world.
One of our biggest crowd gatherers is the 18.3 tonne, circa 1918 Fowler
steam traction engine
which is regularly fired up and brought out to the front of the museum
for display (subject to fire restrictions during summer). You're free
to toot the whistle and watch all the others jump so be sure to have
your video camera ready!
At 1:15pm on the 2nd Sunday of each month a tractor parade leaves the
museum and makes its way down to Mussel Pool and back which is
something that no tractor enthusiast should miss.
As well as farm machinery the
museum also has a display of domestic
items that show a little of what life was like down on the farm in days
gone by.
The museum is dedicated to preserving the agricultural and farming
heritage of Western Australia and any donations of suitable machinery
and other items suitable for preservation are gratefully received.
New members are welcomed to join our happy crew of volunteers, just
drop in and have a chat on any open day.
The museum premises can be
contacted on open days on 9209 3480, the Secretary, Hazel on 9574
6629. or
via email here
