Time-Life ‘Foods of the World’ Series

The Time-Life Foods of the World series were first published in 1968. Like The Good Cook which followed it, contributors were (or have become) icons of the food writing universe: MFK Fisher, Waverley Root, Richard Olney, Alec Waugh, Adrian Bailey, Laurence van der Post and others. The books were issued in two volumes: a hardcover 4to which described the food history, rituals and traditions of the country or region and a smaller spiral-bound recipe book to be used in the kitchen. Subscribers were also offered the option of the two volumes in a protective white vinyl folder or in a cardboard slipcase. The books were authoritative, if in some cases now geographically dated ("The Cooking of Russia" for instance includes states of the Soviet Union as it was then known).

Prices for the volumes vary depending upon scarcity and condition. Because they were not offered in Australia, the American Regional sets are particularly hard to come by in this country and are available by special order only.
