Infantry Signaller, London Irish Rifles. 1942-1947. First became interested in Amateur Radio in 1946, operating OE9AA in Klagenfurt. Licenced as G3JJX in 1953 and VK6AJ in 1957. Member of the WIA, RSGB and the RSARS. Favourite mode is HF CW, all bands 7 to 28 Mhz, with occasional excursions on SSB. Jeff enjoys DX hunting, contesting, rag-chewing, and often found on RSARS CW frequencies.

From Tasmania (ex VK7EK), Don, now signing as VK6EY was with the RAF during WW2 with a Mobile Signals Group attached to Conbined Operations in North Africa and Italy. Don also spent four years in Palastine. Active on 20 metres SSB from his new QTH in Busselton close to Rex, VK6SN.

Born 31 December 1940 in Bridgewater,Somerset,England. First licensed as VS9ARN whilst serving in Aden with the British Army in 1963. Served 8 years with the Royal Signals as a Telegraphist 1956-64. Emigrated to Australia in 1966 on joining the Australian Air Force, once again as a Telegraphist. Licensed as VS6AF in Hong Kong 1968-70 and 74-77. Other calls were VK6WO and VK3DEU before finally becoming VK6HG in 78. Married 43 years and two grown up children. Retired from the RAAF after 22 years and worked for a Judge in the Perth, Western Australian District court until April 2003. Now retired to the country on a half acre in the south west of Western Australia. Still a CW hound.

Malcolm Johnson

Malcolm - a dedicated DX-peditioner interested in IOTA activities worldwide. Major projects included the administration and sponsorship of DX-peditions to rare countries, including Vietnam as 3W2LC, and especially islands not normally activated on the Amateur Bands. Malcolm retired from the workforce in 2001 as design engineer serving in the offshore oil and gas industries, now spending more time with RSARS chasing.

Alan comes from a long career in electronic engineering, a Lecturer with TAFE and several Universities in WA, and a pioneer of the "Virtual Classroom" using satellites, video conferencing, and the Internet. Started Amateur Radio at 14, later as G3PHG in Crawley, England. Migrated to WA in 1969 operating VK6PG and joining the RSARS whilst bringing up his family in a new land. Interests: Hunting new RSARS and FISTS members on CW, RTTY, PSK31 and SSB, enjoying the delights of computer technologies and writing these web pages.
Lastly, and most importantly!, Alan is the VK/ZL RSARS Co-ordinator & QSL Manager.


VK6SN - RexVK6SN - RSARS 2955

Ex "OWL", joined in 1957 at Catterick with 7TR basic training, 4TR wireless training, and moving to the 3rd Infantry Division, Signals at Colchester. Rex explained his work with 90 Signals Regiment - War Office Trials, and his experience with Marconi (ex-Chelmsford works) receivers Type DS11 and DS19's. Rex started Amateur Radio in 1990 with the call VK6MRH soon afterwards obtaining his present call - VK6SN. Sporting an FT101 into a three element tri-bander (TH3jnr) and an 80 metre dipole, Rex is a regular in the "VK-RSARS Nets", and he enjoys keeping in touch with his fellow RSARS friends using email.

Norman Campbell

Norman explains his services to the Queen - 22 years and 147 days according to his pay book! Since 1950, Norman served with the Royal Army Service Corps(RASC), Royal Corps of Transport(RCT), Kings African Rifles(KAR), and peacetime service in Japan, Korea, East Africa, London, Hong Kong and lastly - Northern Ireland. First licenced as GI8FYZ in 1970 and later VK6ZCU in WA.
But Norman has a new hobby! - Community broadcasting. It seems that Norman is the Station Manager of the Kalamunda Radio Station 101.1 FM. Thanks to his wife Margaret who disclosed this vital information about "Why Norman is so quiet on the RSARS net channels?"
Perhaps we can entice Norman to "swap shifts" and check into the RSARS net on occasions.


Adrian, VK6WBWVK6WBW/G7WBW - RSARS 3566

Originally from the East Midlands, Adrian started Amateur Radio in 1980 as a short wave listener, later joining RAMC. First licensed as G7WBW in 1996 whilst serving at Winterbourne Gunner near Salisbury, during which time he was Treasurer & Membership Secretary of the Salisbury Amateur Radio Club. Between 1998 and 2000 he was stationed in Hohne, Germany signing DA4WBW and as a member of the Fassberg Radio Club (DARC - H07). After 23 years in uniform, he left the Army in 2003 settling near Catterick (only two miles from the late G3EKL) and worked for the Ambulance Service in Leeds. Migrated with his family to Perth in 2009 to work as a paramedic with St John Ambulance. Adrian enjoys all aspects of Amateur Radio, and having up-graded his equipment plans to be active on all bands as much as possible and work towards various operating awards.


VK6WT - DavidVK6WT - RSARS 1793 (SK 7th October 2009)

David Couch (1917 - 2009) Aged 92.

David saw service in the Australian Armed Services and later had a long and distinquished career, with many years as a Electronics Engineering and Amateur Radio Course Lecturer with TAFE in Western Australia. He was a member of the WIA, RSGB, RSARS, FOC (1200) and the ARRL, David also had many awards including QCWA, OTC, WAPW, DXCC, WAC, WAS, WAZ, WAJA, P100-0, WAP, WPX, ZMT, KKK-1000 and many RSARS trophies. His former calls included: AX6WT, VK6WT/W4, G4ADI and ZL2AKC.


VK6RV - RonVK6RV/G3FRV - RSARS 3595 (SK 23rd December 2011)

Ronald Gordon Butler Vaughan (1933 - 2011) Aged 78.

Licensed in 1947 as G3FRV at the age of 14, Ron Vaughan served with the RAF as aircrew, and subsequently in the RAFVR as a Technical Signals Officer; and later spending some 20 years as a Senior Communications Development Engineer in the UK. He was co-founder and secretary of the Crawley Amateur Radio Club for 14 years, a former General Manager of the RSGB, and served on many RSGB Committees before migrating to WA in 1972 and his new call - VK6RV. Ron retired in 1999 after working on the design of VHF/UHF communication systems for the mining industry within Australia and abroad. A Past District Governor of Lions Clubs International.
