Over the past four years, 30 pairs of breeding peregrines have been located in KNP. It is felt that most of the breeding pairs in the Northern end of the Park have been located. It will take another two seasons to be in the same position in the Southern end. At this stage, it is estimated that there are between 35 and 40 breeding pairs in KNP.
It is impossible to estimate the total number of non-breeding peregrines in the Park. However, based on an average of two young per nest, it is estimated that 60 young birds per year are added to the peregrine population. It is not known where these birds disperse. It should be noted that the mortality rate of peregrines in their first year is very high. Nevertheless, it is considered that KNP has a very good and stable population.
