For the species identification to be made you will need to include photos of the big claw, eyes and what the crab looks like when the big pincer is covering the shell opening.

from the latin word compressus which means compress [latin].

In Coenobita compressus it may have been used to describe the
'compressed' eye shape of a C. compressus land hermit crab.
