The model has now been running successfully since its official opening in April 2004, and is attracting lots of favourable comment. We are now talking to other potential clients interested in an interactive of this type.
In late 2002, emerystudio (formerly Gary Emery Design) asked us to design and build the computer system and electronics to drive a large animated map of the Murray Darling Basin, to be installed in the MacCormick Centre For The Environment, Renmark, South Australia.
The design brief: Build a robust, easily maintained, completely safe interactive for a remote location, using different lighting effects to show environmental features of the Murray Darling Basin.
This has been a huge and challenging job for all concerned, now nearing completion with the interactive installed in Renmark. I'd like to thank all those who've helped along the way....
Mark Janetzki of emerystudio and Dave Huxtable of Look Ear for the opportunity to build the beast.
John Banikos for his early work on developing the technical ideas and the prototype, and the design and construction of the lighting control unit.
Ron and Bernie Gray of Consolidated Graphics, for their hosting the installation of our bit into the cabinet they made, and their help and good humour when they had plenty of other things on their plate.
Paul Oxley of Protolab for a great job with the neons, and his unfailing cheerfullness in the face of my habit of breaking the tubes.
The amazing Andrew Pam of Serious Cybernetics, developer of the software, for his ingenuity, reliability and grace under pressure. Without Andrew we would never have pulled this thing off!
And finally, Toby Dacy, who has rallied to the call whenever deadlines are tight, and who can be relied on to solder a multi-pin plug at 3.15 AM, and Andrew Kennedy, who answered my call for help with the soldering and kept me sane in the workshop.
