Binary Counter

In mid 2002, Monash Universty's Computer Education Research Group asked us to build an interactive to demonstrate binary counting for the new Monash Science Centre .

The design brief: Build a robust, easily operated, completely safe interactive to a very limited budget. How did we go? Well, firstly, we shot ourselves in the foot budget wise! But it works well, with the only problem so far being a blown fuse, caused by high peak current flows when the solenoids kick in. The solution: slow blow fuses.

The unit in place, mounted at an angle of 14 degrees to allow the balls to roll with plenty of kinetic energy!
