Roadworks plan shows Tomalpin commitment 07/09/2002 Newcastle Herald A DEVELOPMENT application for roadworks within the controversial Tomalpin industrial subdivision has been lodged with Cessnock City Council. The submission of the application was announced yesterday at a Property Council of Australia lunch in Newcastle. Three representatives of Hardie Holdings, the company behind the development proposal, addressed 150 people. General manager of Hardie subsidiary company Hunter Employment Zone Matt Somers said that he hoped the council would approve the roadworks application within two months. The 860ha subdivision proposal, for the biggest development of its kind in the State, has attracted public opposition for years. The plan was met with resident anger and joy from the Cessnock business community when the site was rezoned six months ago. Hardie Holdings principal Duncan Hardie told yesterday's property council meeting that he was committed to the Tomalpin project. |
