Forster/Tuncurry Dive sites

Local shore dives:

TUNCURRY BREAK WALL: Max depth 6 metres. This is a drift dive, this dive, this dive should be done on the rising tide, the best visibility is found just before the high tide. An excellent night dive and is a good treasure hunt dive for lost fishing equipment etc.

FORSTER BREAKWALL : Max depth 4.5 metres. This is also a drift dive, not as much growth as Tuncurry but still worthwhile.
HAYDENS ROCK: Max depth 6 metres. Located just offshore from Second Head.A nice patch of reef with lots of nooks and crannies to explore, a good variety of fish life call it home too.
THE TANKS: Max depth 6 metres. Shallow patch of reef just off shore, and opposite the Primary School, this reef is similar in nature to Haydens Rock and worthy of a dive.
THE BAIT GROUNDS: Max depth 9 metres. A reasonably large patch of reef located approx 300 metres off shore from Pebbly Beach. A good exploratory dive with prolific fish life.
BENNETTS HEAD BOMMIE: Max depth 10.5 metres. This dive is better suited for a boat dive, but can be done by the marathon swimmer as it is about 350 metres from the nearest entry point. It is however a good shallow reef dive, a large variety of fish are found here, with lots of nooks and crannies to be investigated. A cave located on the South Eastern side can be explored and exited through a chimney if so desired.
ONE MILE GUTTERS: Max depth 12 metres. Similar in access as to Bennetts Head Bommie but well worth the effort. A series of gutters running parallel from the headland (BENNETTS HEAD). Many Tropical fish inhabit this area including a number of different types of Ray. Soft Coral and Sponges are also found here.
ONE MILE BOMMIE: Max depth 7.5 metres. This bommie is located on the Southern end of One Mile Beach and out from the Surf Club. An easy shore dive as a concrete path leads almost down to the rocks. Good fish life can be found here.
NORTH BURGESS BEACH: Max depth 7.5 metres. This is like a wall dive. Fallow the headland around to One Mile Beach. Lots of small creatures to be found if you like poking around.
IDOL BAY: Max depth 9 metres. This is an easy dive, with the more adventurous diver moving a fair way along the headland towards Mc Brides Beach. This is a dive with lots of Bommies to poke around on, with a prolific small fish life, Nudibranches and our resident loggerhead Turtle "AGRO".
THE COLOURS: Max depth 15 metres. You need a Four wheel drive for this dive, two Bommies are located 200 metres off shore from the Northern end of McBrides Beach. This dive has drop-offs, shallow caves, a lot of fish life, some Turtles and tame Blue Groper, who are always on the lookout for a free feed of Urchin.
INSIDE LATITUDE REEF: Max depth 18 metres. Another dive usually done by boat. It is a large reef, which will take numerous dives to see all it has to offer. There are literally hundreds of fish which shoal around you , all of which once an Urchin is opened, try to get a piece.
JANIES CORNER: Max depth 6 metres. This area is to be found on the Southern side of Cape Hawke. A shallow dive following the wall of Cape Hawke. Pieces of wreckage are often found along this wall, as many vessels in the past have struck this area during bad weather.
ELIZABETH BEACH: Max depth 12 metres. The Southern end of this Beach offers the easiest entry and exit point. It should be pointed out that during the summer period the boat ramp is used frequently and care should be taken to avoid the boats. This is a nice sheltered dive from all weather except North Easterlies. A pleasant second dive with fish life in abundance.
SHELLY BEACH: Max depth 12 metres. The rocky outcrops at each end of this Beach has more fish life as it is less accessible by land. There is a steep dirt (4 wheel drive) track, perhaps not suitable as a family dive location, as it is the nudist beach for the Forster area.
