Thomas ROBERTS was b. about 1820 in Slaidburn, Yorkshire, England, to William ROBERTS and Margaret BLEAZARD.
Isabella OVERALL was born in Manchester about 1834 to James OVERALL and Elizabeth HOWSON.
Thomas ROBERTS and Isabella OVERALL came to Australia in 1854, claiming to have been married in Manchester in 1853. Their first child, James, was born aboard Queen of the Sea, whilst emigrating to Australia. It is believed that it was this pregnancy that was the cause of them emigrating. Perhaps the fact that Thomas' father was a lay preacher, they were forced to migrate to the colony to avoid family embarrassment.
Thomas and Isabella ultimately did get married in the Fitzroy Registry Office on 8 February 1870. Thomas ROBERTS died on 7 July 1888 in Richmond. Isabella OVERALL died on 19 May 1890.
Thomas and Isabella had 10 children: James, Margaret Ann, William James, Elizabeth Jane, Herbert Overall, James Edgar, Mary Alice, Thomas Henry, Alfred Overall and Sidney Jonathan Overall.
William James ROBERTS b.1858 d.1912, married Margaret MOORE in 1893.
Herbert Overall ROBERTS b. 1863 d.1931, first married Emily DUNCAN (nee Wallace) b. c.1864 [father: Jonathan Wallace, mother: Elizabeth Lacey] in 1888. Emily died in 1902. Herbert Overall then married Janie MONCRIEFF in 1903.
James Edgar ROBERTS b. 1866 d. 1946, married Esther Annie NICHOLSON in 1895.
Mary Alice ROBERTS b. 1868 married William Robert PAUL in 1888.
Alfred Overall ROBERTS b. 19 May 1874 at Ballarat East, was Killed in Action, Bullecourt, France, on 3 May 1917. Alfred Overall married Alice May MERRIMAN on 19 December 1906 in Holy Trinity, Kew. They had three children, all girls; Hilda May ROBERTS b.1907 [ who married Samuel James ISSETT in 1934], Dorothy Isabel ROBERTS b.1909, and Ella Alice ROBERTS b.1913.
Sidney Jonathan Overall ROBERTS b. 1876 d. 1950, married Ada MERRIMAN in 1902.
