Further ideas?
Remember you don't need to use the doorbell ... If all you need is a display showing inside and outside temperature
then everything else is a bonus! I've seen wireless units showing temperature only costing much more!
You could simply put the doorbell unit under the eaves or on the ceiling of your front or back porch or veranda (remember to keep it out of the rain and, preferably, out of direct sun-light).
How about using it to monitor the temperature in your wine cellar? What about the kid's room (elderly person, pet animal etc.) when they're sick? The doorbell could act as an emergency or paging buzzer in this situation.
Also, if you're renting a house ... remember this unit is completely portable ... just take it with you when you move!
Operational notes:
As with many wireless devices I've found that very few will operate over the distance claimed.
I would suggest that a 'reliable' distance for this device to operate is 10 to 15 metres (30 to 45 feet).
It is best to place it close to the front door anyway so that anyone operating the doorbell can actually hear it -
otherwise they tend to just keep pressing the button! Note, one good thing about this unit is that it will only 'ding-dong' once
and you must release the button and press it again for it to operate a second time.
This unit also comes with a good quality button that you'd be proud to display at your front door. However,
if you're handy with a soldering iron, you can do what I've done and attach a wire to the unit and connect
your own button that's more in keeping with your style of home. i.e. I have a period style house so I used
a brass electrical on-off switch unit and placed a doorbell switch in it. By doing this you can also mount the doorbell unit
and temperature sensor away from direct sunlight and rain (note, the unit is splash-proof but not water-proof).
Also to stop interference from another unit (e.g. a neighbour's) it has seven switches which can be set to 1 of 128 combinations.
An additional switch on the doorbell unit changes the chime from 'ding dong' to Westminster. Finally, if you had two of these units
one can be set to 'ding dong' and the other to Westminster to distinguish between different doors or other uses (e.g. emergency buzzer).
Note, colour of the unit may vary to that shown. Phillips head screwdrivers (now supplied) is required to attach the doorbell unit's water resistant cover.
