The TL9000 (C4 or SC4 lathe) comes with external jaws, chuck key, MT#2 tailstock and MT#3 spindle dead centres, metric and imperial thread cutting gear set (13 gears), adjustment hex keys, screwdrivers and spanners and spare fuse. Instruction manual and a CDROM are included. We also provide a copy of the manual in a folder with plastic sheet protectors so oil and grease can't affect them. We also provide additional instruction on maintaining the lathe and how to perform thread cutting (using the stop-start method) and how to machine left-handed threads - which some people suggested you couldn't do!

Imperial thread cutting 8 to 24 TPI (Threads Per Inch) in 10 steps. NOTE - 3 extra threads are possible 36, 44, 56 TPI but these are not 100% accurate due to the gear ratio used! 7. According to this document - click here - 29 imperial threads are possible and 25 metric. We also provide the simple calculations that you need to determine the pitch or TPI from the gears installed - which also means that other thread cutting pitches are possible!
Comments - 'Mind you, that C4 machine seems to have impressed everyone who has tried it out and written about it, a real capable little machine.' 'I like the variable speed and it is a boon to be able to adjust the speed to get the right cutting speed by eye and ear for a particular tool and material rather than from charts that I use now only as a starting point.'

STOP PRESS: The TL5000 or C3 metalworking variable speed lathe with spindle speed LED readout is a very popular in Australia. If you add the cost of the horizontal slider, cutter set and the thread cutting gears to the cost of the smaller C1 lathe you'll find that you pay only $70 extra for the C3. The delivery and handling fee to most capital cities in Australia is $66 (Brisbane $88).
The TL5000 or Sieg C3 Lathe (7x14 or 14x7) is a larger (LxWxH = 76x23x30cm or 30x9x12") and more professional lathe than the C1. It includes many safety features - an emergency stop button, motor overload protection and a plastic chuck cover which must be down for the machine to operate. This prevents you from starting the lathe with the chuck-key in! Made with heavy cast iron, it's specifications include a swing over bed of 180mm (7"), length between centres 350mm (14")+, hole through spindle or spindle bore of 20mm (3/4")~, a spindle taper of MT3, tailstock taper of MT2, has a 1/2HP (350W) motor with speeds of 100-3000rpm approx. (in high range) and 40-1400rpm (in low range) with LED digital speed indication. Metric thread cutting pitches 0.4mm to 2.0mm in 10 steps (more are possible see below) included or imperial 12 tpi to 52 tpi in 18 steps available with optional TL5005 kit. A tumbler gear lever is provided that allows the lead screw to be reversed for left handed threads (an unusual feature on a small lathe) and a four-position lever-operated toolpost makes for fast and easy tool changes (tip, the quick change toolpost provides a better and safer alternative). Overall length is 750mm (30") and the weight is 44Kg(97lbs) and 54Kg(119lbs) in box with all accessories. Supplied with 80mm 3 jaw self-centring chuck (plus external jaws), instruction manual (including chapters on 'simple turning', 'simple turning with power feed', 'bevel cutting' and 'screw cutting'), metal cuttings and coolant tray, heavy-duty rubber feet, 6 piece metric thread cutting gear kit, dead tailstock centre, allen keys and spanners. Plus zero-resettable hand wheels with 0.025mm divisions on the cross and horizontal slides. The accessories listed here can also be used with the C2 lathe (model 200 or 300) or AL-30. Compared to the C2 lathe (or AL-30) the C3 provides a bigger lathe (distance between centres of 350mm), more powerful motor (350W) and an RPM speed indicator. As a special bonus, we now include a 5 piece cutter set (SN-10004) and 4 in 1 screwdriver set.
The C3 lathe can cut metals, including; carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminium, brass, copper, bronze, silver and gold plus non-metals as wood, carbon fibre and hard plastics. With the accessories available it should be able to perform any task required within the dimensional limits of the machine! NOTE, some businesses purchase the C1 or C3 lathes for winding or polishing machines!
Customer feedback:
'Lovely little machine. Lathe all fixed up on a specially made mini bench... I even sat down & read the handy manual you sent with it, just the job for blokes like me who have been away from it most of their lives. Reg, Australia.
'I am pretty happy with the C3 lathe - it does everything I wanted!' Rod, Australia.
'I am pleased with the 3-jaw chuck; it is accurate to less than 1 thou (0.001") runout...' Danny, Australia.
'I purchased a C3 mini lathe a year or so ago - still going well...' David P. Australia.
NOTE: We provide a new easy-to-read 30 page colour manual with all C3 lathes along with additional safety and other important instructions! A CD-ROM is also included with instructions on using and maintaining the lathe!

+350mm (14") between headstock and tailstock centres.
~the hole through the 3 jaw chuck is only 15mm or 0.6" - the 4 jaw chuck is 22mm or 0.8"
More information on TL5000 (C3): 1. Please email us to receive a copy of the 2011 Sieg catalogue. 2. The 80mm three jaw chuck holds from 2.5mm (0.1") to 35mm (1.5") dia. material using internal jaws and 75-80mm (3") dia. maximum using the external jaws. A 100mm chuck holds from 5mm (0.2") to 45mm (1.8") dia. internal and 100mm (4") dia external. 3. Most allen keys and spanners necessary for adjustment of the lathes are included, together with a chuck key, oil dispenser, external jaws (for 3 jaw chuck) and a spare fuse. 4. It is recommended for rough cutting, you do not exceed 0.25mm or 0.01" depth of cut (10 divisions). 5. The lathe slides use dovetail construction with gib (miter wedge) adjustment for maximum rigidity and precision.
Lathe tips and applications: 1. For a thorough review of the C3 lathe (warts and all) go to the UK website click here. The www.mini-lathe.com website also provides reviews and explains all the terminology and provides on-line help with your new lathe! Also explains how to convert the C3 to a CNC lathe! 2. Because the lathe cutting tools are tungsten-carbide tipped, you will need to use a good quality grinding wheel to sharpen them. e.g. try a diamond-power coated knife sharpener. Click here for more information. 3. Another very useful website is http://www.mini-lathe.org.uk this site explains step-by-step how to do common turning operations, discusses problems and shows a home-made rotary table. 4.
