The CREE X-Glow LED torch range are all made from tough aluminium with a lamp life of 50,000 hours (> 5 years). Each uses a XR-E Cree Xlamp white LED. This range is ideal for use in all sorts of applications from police and security to home, office or sporting use. All incorporate instant-off operation (an important requirement for police or military), multi-facets reflector which provides smooth beam and water resistant design. All torches can be used in broad-beam mode by unscrewing the head of the torch and the ALC0313N and ALC0713D can be used as electric candles standing up on any flat surface! The torches come with wrist strap, belt pouch, batteries and 12 months warranty. This X-Glow range represents ideal replacements for your Mag-lite! These torches are brighter than any standard Maglite, with the ALC0713D even brighter than the HUGE six D cell model...
ALC-0811AA (shown above middle)*
The ALC0811AA provides up to 80 Lumens of light and is powered by 1 x AA alkaline battery. It provides a pushbutton on the end of the torch with momentary or constant-on operation.
The torch contains a special DC-DC converter that boosts the voltage to 4-5 volts to drive the LED.
Using rechargeable batteries in this torch is not recommended because the torch gets extremely hot with continuous use (it could even be used as a warming device in cold climates e.g. in the snow to stop frostbite).
It is also extremely tough on batteries and we recommend you remove the battery (due to possible leakage) when not in use.
Despite what it says on the pack, the torch can operate for 4 hours or more (1.5 hours at high brightness) with a good quality alkaline battery such as Varta High Energy.

ALC-0613AA (shown above top)
The ALC0613AA provides up to 136 Lumens of light and is powered by 3 x AA alkaline or NiMH batteries. It provides a pushbutton on the end of the torch with momentary or constant-on operation.

ALC-0313N (shown above bottom)* - ideal replacement for the ALX553N 5W LED torch!
The ALC0313N provides up to 136 lumens of light and is powered by a NiMH battery pack (3 x 4/5A batteries 3.6V 2000mAh) which is supplied along with 240VAC mains and car chargers.
Note, the battery remains in the torch for re-charging through a DC socket (see the picture) that is protected by a metal collar. Also, in an emergency, this torch can also be powered by using 3 x AAA alkaline or NiMH batteries using tubing which we provide as a special bonus.
The unit incorporates a 3 mode electronic switch that provides high and low brightness as well as a blinking or flashing mode. The unit also incorporates electronics that prevents over-charging and over-discharging of the battery!
Most important for police or military use, is that it provides instant-off operation (it turns off in any mode by pressing the pushbutton once only).
Burn-time more than 18 hours on LOW, 12 hours flashing and 4.5 hours on HIGH. Charge time 3.5 hours.

ALC-0713D (not shown - click here)*
The ALC0713D provides up to 178 lumens of light and is powered by 3 x D alkaline or NiMH batteries. It provides the same electronic mode switch as the ALC0313N.
This torch has the highest brightness and the longest operational time of all the X-glow torches!
To save money (and the environment) you might wish to consider recharging your alkaline D cells using the Rezap charger - click here.
Alternatively high-capacity NiMH D cells can be used, however these are very expensive and require a suitable charger - please ask us about this option.
As a cost saving measure (and in an emergency) why not purchase some AA to D cell converters and use NiMH AA cells instead?
This has the added advantage of reducing the weight considerably - from 770g to around 450g.
Another advantage of this torch (because of it's size, strength and weight) is that, in an emergency, it could be used for self-defence!

LED torches: Here's what Silicon Chip magazine had to say in 2003: 'In the last 12 months LED torches have finally arrived. This white LED torch provides a similar intensity light output to its incandescent bulb counterpart yet uses far less current from the battery. It gives a beautifully soft light beam which maintains a constant colour and similar brightness over the whole battery life. And the LED should never need replacing. ... (this) LED torch produces a natural white light instead of the yellowish light from torch bulbs.' One customer, who uses an LED headtorch for fly fishing, says "we should sell thousands of these LED torches". It seems that the superior white light output and the peripheral light (not just a single narrow beam) makes these torches ideal for fly fishing (and many other activities).
