This kit is useful for educational and training purposes in the field of computer control, factory automation, mechanical and electrical engineering. In addition, fischertechnik products have often been used for simulation and prototyping purposes.
The new fischertechnik interface (30402) unit provides eight digital inputs, two analog inputs and four bi-directional motor outputs. The unit connects to any serial port. The analog inputs may be used with potentiometers (for position control), light dependent resistors (for measuring light), thermisters (for measuring temperature) or any resistive device between 0 and 5000 ohms.
Windows software (for Windows 3.1 and Windows 95+) is supplied ready-to-run. For those wishing to modify a program or write their own, source code in VisualBASIC for Windows (16 + 32 bit) is provided. Example programs are also provided in QBASIC, C and TurboPascal. Other software, purchased separately, is available including; Terrapin LOGO and LLWIN a flowchart style language. Also available is a programmable control language (PLC), developed in Australia by Procon Technology, that simulates the operation of relay-ladder-logic control (a free demo is provided with kit).
The latest release of software from Procon Technology provides source code for VisualBASIC version 5 or greater, a 32 bit programming language for Windows 95+, XP, 2000 and NT. A total of 21 program examples in VB are given for the Profi and Turtle Kits. A number of example programs are provided in Delphi version 3 and Visual C++ version 4. Part No. 30521WIN32S.
The PROFI COMPUTING KIT (30490) includes three motors and gearboxes, six micro-switches, four lamps, two photo-transistors, a 20 pin connection socket and construction base-plate. A total of 850+ parts with manuals describing the construction of 12 models.
A Profi extension pack (30490-1) is available to provide software and assembly details for add-ons to the turtle project. It explains how to add a light sensor to detect the brightest source of light in the room. A bumper to detect obstacles. A read head for following a path drawn on the floor. And a pen for drawing interesting patterns. Two other bonus projects are included; a transfer robot and a welding robot arm.
