The PC-IO-G6C2 board (240mm x 100mm) has been designed for applications where reliable operation in the most arduous conditions is required. These boards are mounted externally and are capable of operating through any IBM-PC bi-directional parallel Printer Adapter interface (many PCs, notebooks and industrial PC/104 computers have compatible interfaces). The use of the PC-BD-IO interface card is recommended for guaranteed operation and full expansion capability. Four DIP switches select each boardís address setting on the PA-BUS allowing up to eight cards to be daisy-chained using a single 25 way cable and provides up to 120 outputs. These boards are also capable of being controlled by a suitable microcomputer system such as the ABC (AVR Basic Controller). The ABC also allows you to control the boards through the serial port!
The PA-BUS interface to the computer uses the latest ALS logic devices for low power consumption, improved drive capability (PA-BUS cable lengths to 30 metres are possible) and increased protection against electrostatic discharge which conforms to the MIL-M-38510 spec. The PA-BUS interface also allows the board to be powered up and down whilst the bus is operating.
The Single Pole Double Throw relays are each rated at 10 Amps at 250VAC or 30VDC (resistive load). The relay outputs may be used to control; lamps, solenoids, motors, motor contactors and other high current equipment. They may also be used to switch low current analogue or digital signals and provide long-life in such applications. Each output is isolated from the other and from the computer circuitry providing maximum immunity to electrical noise and maximum flexibility in the systemís design.
Each board provides status or ID information to the computer, allowing the system configuration to be determined and checked. Fail-safe functioning has been designed into the board with a watch-dog timer providing shutdown if a computer write operation has not been performed within 0.15 or 1.5 seconds (jumper selectable). This function may be turned off it not required. Power fail indication is also provided allowing the computer to take necessary corrective action if a power loss occurs on any board connected to the system.
A special, industrial version (PC-IO-G6C2/S), is available with plug-in relays and detachable screw terminals. Other options are available to customer order. Output options include; 12-280VAC/1.5A solid-state relays, AC or DC solid-state relays that switch loads of 40-80 Watts at 1000V peak or 4A peak and isolated TTL level outputs (Telecom approved devices can be supplied).
Other boards in the range are; G6C-24VAC a 8 relay output and 8 input board and the ADC808 eight analogue input board.
'I am a very happy customer. Iíve been using the 16 relay boards I purchased, for the last few years, in my Christmas lights display. I managed to get them working with a program written in Delphi. Now it is time to expand...' Michael Hains, Australia.
"One of many of your boards, used in access control, allows 500 cars each day to enter and exit our basement carpark. We have never had a problem with your boards". Alan Wright, Technical Manager, Rialto Building, Australia.
'Hi, Peter. Yes, I'm still playing with my robots. I have eight of your G6C-24VAC cards and I've never had a problem with them - some are ten years old!' David Gerke, Australia.
"I have boards that have been switching once per second for over ten years ... thanks for a great product! Graeme Duncan, Australia. Note, Graeme was one of our first customers and purchased the PC-IO-NR board which uses relays with a mechanical life of 1000 million operations. Hopefully he'll get another 20 years out of it! p.s. We can still supply these relays on our 16 out board ... however, solid-state relays would be recommended.
"We had problems with everything else during development, but not with your boards." Malcolm Murray, Director, Locker Systems of Australia.
"Your boards have proved to be most reliable. If I could buy all my products from you, I'd be laughing!" Bruno Cali, Locker Systems of Australia. (note, over 1000 custom-made boards, since 1996, have been purchased by L.S.A.)
Note, our quality record is almost unblemished; only one of the 2000+ boards shipped to date have been returned due to faulty parts or workmanship! We only use quality Omron relays and good-quality screw terminal connectors!
A range of programming options are available. The advanced PC-IO-XX software provides numerous programs to help get your application up-and-running fast! High speed routines are provided that allow control of a system with 128 inputs and 120 outputs from most languages. Example programs are provided for: QBASIC, VisualBASIC (DOS and Windows), C, Pascal, Delphi and VisualC++. Other methods of controlling the G6C board are provided by a file driver that allows any language with file I/O capability to control the board. A Programmable Logic Control language, based on relay-ladder-logic is also available. The control software has now been tested with Windows NT, 2000 and XP.
Should you wish to program the board directly, the following program illustrates how easy it is. This program is written in QBASIC and assumes that a PA-BUS card is installed at the port address of 768 (300 hex) and that the G6C board is set to address 2 and 3 (all default values). The first relay is activated on the O1 bank whilst the second relay is activated on O2.
DEFINT A-Z 'integer variables
PORT = 768! 'PA-BUS address
Y1 = 1
OUT PORT, Y1 XOR 255 'Output data
OUT PORT + 2, 2 'Select output group O1
OUT PORT + 2, 2 'Again for delay*
OUT PORT + 2, 0 'Latch data
Y2 = 2
OUT PORT, Y2 XOR 255 'Output data
OUT PORT + 2, 3 'Select output group O2
OUT PORT + 2, 3 'Again for delay*
OUT PORT + 2, 0 'Latch data
*A 5 microsecond delay is required, on high speed computers add more OUT instructions!
Using the subroutines provided on the PC-IO-XX software diskette, complex logic control routines can be programmed using simple logic equations. These equations can be derived from relay ladder diagrams, digital logic drawings or simple English statements. An example in BASIC follows:
Y(&12) = (Y(&23) OR X(&13)) AND NOT X(&45)
Board 1/output 2 activates when board 2/output 3 OR board 1/input 3 is ON, provided that board 4/input 5 is NOT ON. Where X represents inputs and Y outputs.
All products manufactured by Procon Technology are warranted against defective materials and workmanship for a period of 2 years from the date of purchase. Any product that is found to be defective within the warranty period will, at the option of Procon Technology, be repaired or replaced.
