The Engine and Gearbox

 

I purchased this 2 litre Pinto engine & Supra 5 speed gearbox from a fellow Escort enthusiast ,

The block has Duratec pistons,  Pinto injection rods,

Lighten flywheel, High pressure oil pump & 5000 klm since a rebuild.

The head is stock with a Crow cam,  Camtec followers & Vernier cam wheel.

 

A nice little power plant with development potential.

 

As this setup came out of an Escort installing it should be straight forward.

World cup cross member and engine mounts in place.

 

Also anti dive kit bolted into place

 

And yes I will tidy up the wiring

It all fitted nicely but only after we had to modify the height of the left hand engine mount as the engine mounts that came with the world cup cross member were a bit dodgy and the engine would not sit level.

So lesson learnt make sure what you buy is genuine and not recycled by some so called expert.  

Just need to make up a gearbox mount to suit the Supra 5 speed and the larger tunnel

 

A nice new set of Ceramic coated Genie headers should help it get rid of those nasty gases.

 

They also improve the appearance of the engine bay

 

I tried a set of Pacemaker headers but found the Genie headers gave more clearance around the chassis rail and brake pipes.

 

A mandrel bent stainless steel exhaust  system was also fitted.

The engine was fitted with the standard carburettor and a sports air filter for now. 

 

I still have to add the timing belt cover, pollution gear and a standard air cleaner set up so it will pass a Blue slip inspection for registration .

 

The clutch cable is a longer version from a TE Cortina. I also covered it in a heat shield as they are easy melted by the heat from the headers.

 

Heater water was taken from block drain below No. 4 exhaust port using a special fitting..

 

This help water flow and cooling at the rear of block

 

 

The battery, windscreen washer bottle and the carbon canister are all located in the boot.

 

 

The radiator is 3 core with slightly larger tanks.
