Biography
Ken Hill began performing in Sydney in 1983
before moving to the Riverina in 1986. That same year Ken won the inaugural "Home
Tavern Quest" in Wagga and released his first recording, a self titled EP of
four original songs on the Tabita label, prompting airplay and personal appearances. 1987, Ken as a top ten finalist
in the Tamworth Starmaker Quest after which he released his fist album,
"Southern Summer Nights". This was followed in 1988 by his limited release album
"One Night Stand". Ken’s TV appearances include the ABCs "That’s
Australia", RVN’s "About Town", with live radio
appearances on ABC, Sydney, Canberra and a number of regional radio programs.
In 1989 Ken moved to the ACT where
he soon became a regular performer at clubs, hotels and private functions in Canberra,
Queanbeyan and surrounding districts, while still returning regularly to play clubs and
festivals in the Riverina, Snowy Mountains area and throughout New South Wales. In 1994
Ken released his all original album "Breakfast In Bed". In 1995 "Ken Hill and Ron
Preston – Live" was released, followed in ’96 by Ken’s
"Another Late Night". Ken’s C.D. "Grantham
Street" of fourteen original songs was released in November 1998. The album
"Built For Comfort" with 10 original and 5 cover tracks was released in April
2000.
In November 2000 Ken won Male vocal
of the year, songwriter of the year and best album ("Built For Comfort") at the
Queanbeyan Independent Country Music Awards. Ken’s material incorporates
middle of the road, country, country rock, ballads and originals. The cross range in his
repertoire accommodates audiences of wide musical tastes, and age groups.
