From Kirk sessions, Dalrymple. "1841, June 28: Elizabeth Trainor came voluntarily before the session and confessed herself with child in fornication, accused James Thom Jnr. in Balgeen as the father. He acknowledged". This would seem to be James who shortly thereafter married Ann Donald, as this family was living in Balgreen at the time.

"Death of Mr. James THOM".
FUNERAL NOTICE.
The Friends of the late Mr James THOM are respectfully invited to follow his
remains to the place of internment, The BURRAMINE cemetery. The Funeral is appointed to leave his late residence, Burramine at 10'clock to-day.
DEATH.
THOM - on the 27th instant, at his residence, Burramine, James, beloved husband of Ann Thom. Aged 69 years.
DEATH OF MR. JAMES THOM.
General regret was felt in the town yesterday when it became known that during the early morning, Mr. James Thom, well-known and esteemed pioneer of the Yarrawonga district, had expired at his residence, Burramine. The sad event, was however, not altogether unexpected, as it was generally known that for some time past, the weight of years was telling its tale and that Mr. Thom was breaking up fast. It is some time since the deceased had been able to make his usual weekly visits to the township, but hopes were entertained that the flickering spark might have been fanned back to flame, but it was decreed otherwise, and, as stated, the esteemable and aged gentleman quietly passed away, surrounded by his sorrowing family.
The deceased, who had well nigh reached his apportioned time, being 69 year of years, had resided in the immediate district for the past 14 years, having arrived and settled at Burramine in 1874, his fellow pioneers being - Messrs. R. Sharpe, J. Sharpe and G.R.Bruce. They represented the extent of settlement at that time. A native of Ayrshire, Mr. Thom arrived in the colony in 1856, at the height of the gold fever, and in common with the generality, followed for two years, the precarious fortunes of gold digging but without success. In 1858, Mr. Thom settled at Burrumbeet, near Ballarat and engaged in farming pursuits, to which calling, it may be said he was born. After 14 years sojourning in the Ballarat district, the Murray was selected as the future home, and as ordered, became his last resting place. Genial and kind and fearlessly upright, Mr. Thom will be missed in all circles; and the local Agricultural Society, on the Council of which Mr. Thom sat while health permitted, owes much to his practical knowledge and interest. The Presbyterian Church, of which the deceased was an Elder, will also greatly feel the loss of his guiding hand.
The deceased leaves a Widow and a grown-up family of eight sons and daughters, the majority of whom are married and settled in the district.
The Funeral is appointed for to-day at one o'clock, leaving the late residence of the deceased for the Burramine cemetery.

YARRAWONGA CHRONICLE 5th July, 1888
The Funeral of the late Mr. James Thom, of Burramine, took place on Thursday last, the deceased being buried in the Burramine Cemetery.
The Funeral was large and representative, Friends and Sympathizers coming from all parts of the district to show their respect to the remains of a truly good and honoured gentleman, whose name has been associated with the advancement of the district since the earliest times. The Rev. J.D. Robertson performed the burial obsequies in a very solemn and affecting manner.

THE YARRAWONGA MERCURY AND MULWALA (N.S.W.) NEWS. Thursday, October 11, 1891. FUNERAL NOTICE. THOM - The Friends of the late Mrs. James Thom are respectfully informed that her Funeral will leave her late residence, Burramine, at 2pm this day (Thursday, 11th instant), proceeding to the Burramine Cemetery. Strachan & Bowles, Undertakers, Belmore St., Yarrawonga.
DEATH NOTICE. THOM - on the 9th instant, at her late Residence, Burramine, Ann Donald, relic of the late Mr. James Thom, in her 72nd year.
DEATH OF PIONEER RESIDENTS. THE LATE MRS. JAMES THOM. Once more we are called upon to perform a very painful task, viz, recording the death of one of our oldest and most esteemed residents. The subject of this notice, the late Mrs. James Thom, was the relic of the late Mr. James Thom, who some years ago departed to "that bourne from whence no traveller returns". The deceased lady had been in failing health for many months past, and it was plainly seen, as time went on, that she was suffering from a general break-up of the system, she having attained the age of 72 years. Despite all that medical skill could do, and the kind attention of her family and friends, she breathed her last on Tuesday evening last, at her residence, Burramine. The deceased lady, in company with her husband and family - all of whom are grown-up and settled in the colonies - came to these parts when settlement first began, and as a consequence, is rightly termed one of our "Pioneers". Being of a kind and courteous demeanour, ever ready to lend assistance in time of trouble, both by act and word. Mrs. Thom had made a large number of real friends throughout the district, and the news of her not altogether unexpected demise will create feelings of sorrow in the hearts of all with whom she had became associated. With the family , we deeply sympathise in their bereavement; and although they have grown into manhood and womanhood, still in the loss of a mother, they part with that which cannot be replaced. The Funeral, as advertised elsewhere, takes place this afternoon, when the remains will be interred in the Burramine Cemetery, by the side of those of her husband. The deceased was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the pastor, Rev. J.D. Robertson, is once more called upon to perform the last sad rites over the graveside of one of his congregation.
