Unaccountable Disappearance
Since Monday afternoon last search parties have been diligently searching for the whereabouts of Mr David Clark of Burramine North, who has been missing since Saturday night. It appears that about three o'clock last Saturday afternoon Mr Clark drove to Yarrawonga from his home at Burramine North. On his arrival at his destination he stabled his horses and buggy at Mr Marshall's Farmer's Arms Hotel and went out to look after some business he had on hand.
He stayed in the town conversing with various persons until late in the evening. At about midnight he applied at Mr Backhorn's Royal Mail Hotel for a bed. Unfortunately for him all the beds on the premise were occupied, so Mr Clark turned away as if to go home. He has not been seen since. On Monday last the missing gentleman's family finding that he had not returned home, grew anxious about him and sent to Yarrawonga to find out what had become of him. Being unable to discover his whereabouts search parties were organised on Tuesday morning to look for him. After much diligent searching for him in all directions, traces were found on the high bank of the Murray River between Mrs G? and Mrs Cris['s premises of where a man had apparently slipped and after a brief struggle had fallen into the water. It was then surmised that Mr Clark might have mistaken his way home in the dark and accidentally walked into the river. The local police accordingly brought their grappling apparatus to the spot and have been busy ever since dragging up and down the stream. Mr Green's steamer also was employed yesterday agitating the river around the spot where Mr Clark was suposed to have fallen in, with the object of bringing his body to the surface, and all places where it might have lodged were probed with long poles under the direction of the police at Yarrawonga and Mulwala.
Up to late last night, however, no tidings of the missing gentleman had come to hand. 93,181
