Neil's March 2005 DownUnder tour.......

1st of May

Well, I had so much fun at all my Neil concerts that there was no way I could keep up with posting what was happening!!!!  I've also had problems with a bad internet connection which has prevented me from being able to upload my pages to my web site - but finally here's my thoughts and feelings on
Neil's March Downunder Tour......

The excitement and anticipation just kept on building with reading about the NZ concerts on the message board.  I went to my nephew's then fiance's 'Hen's Night' on the same night as the first NZ concert in Wellington, and all through dinner and the festivities  I was checking the time and thinking of all the NZ fans who were about to witness Neil's first DownUnder concert for this tour..  We went back to Lucy's place to continue our party and she was happy for me to check out the message board later in the evening to find out the reaction from the Kiwi fans.  They'd had a fabulous time and thoroughly enjoyed the show and posted the set list which included some of my very favourite Neil songs which he hadn't done in concert for a long time, if ever....  The two Christchurch shows got wonderful write up's too - and then it was time for Neil to head to OZ!!!!

Craig & Lucy's wedding was on the same day as the first Sydney concert, and it was a beautiful wedding in a gorgeous setting - but by the time we sat down for dinner,  I was once again checking the time and thinking of the fans in Sydney.  This time some of my friends from Melbourne, Sydney & Brisbane were at the concert and I knew how excited they would all be......
And knowing what the set list was, I kept imagining what Neil would be singing and how they would be feeling - and secretly wishing I was there with them!!!  I did have a great time at the wedding though and really wouldn't have gone to see Neil instead that night.....

The girls kept us up to date with the concerts and their thoughts via the I A...I S board and they all had an absolute ball in Sydney and Brisbane - and then the day they were flying home from Brisbane I got a text message from Lissa on my mobile phone to say they were on the same plane as Neil and the band to come home and asked me to post it on the board!!!!!!  I was on my way to visit my Dad - who doesn't have a computer!! and then go on to a friend's place - who fortunately does have internet access - so I sent a message back to say I'd post as soon as I got to Jan's.  I was so thrilled and excited for them and could only begin to imagine how they must be feeling!!!!!!!  When I spoke to them the next day they told me what an absolute thrill it had been to see Neil, Rae and the band at the airport - and then for them to all to head to the same boarding lounge when their flight was called.  Aurea called it their 'Starflight' :-)  Judy had said good morning to Neil as he got off the escalator, and he'd replied, but apart from that they didn't approach him at all.  They did however speak to Hadley and the Water's sisters and had photos taken with them......

Finally, on Tuesday March 22nd it was time for my first Neil concert for this tour..  Although in some ways it seemed as if I'd been waiting for ever - after all the last time I'd seen Neil was in June '99 - it also seemed to have come around very quickly since our dates for this tour had been announced!!!

I headed off to my sister's place to go in with her and my brother in law and my cousin and to meet up with fan/friends for dinner before the show - and I was ready to rock!!!!!  By the time we'd eaten, bought some merchandise and gone in and found our floor seats in row L, I thought I couldn't wait a minute longer!!!!!  But it was another half an hour before the first announcement that the concert would be starting shortly and all the info about not taking photos, that the lights would dim suddenly and no-one would be seated during the first song......
I was really enjoying watching the arena fill and hearing all the excited chatter going on around us.  The stage already looked great, bathed in blue light, and the huge screens, one either side of the stage, were a promise that even the people at the back were going to see Neil tonight!!!!!
Then came the second announcement - the quietening of the audience - the lights dimming - the band appearing in an absolutely fabulous way - and then...............
there was Neil
- high at the centre rear of the stage,, bathed in light with a lit up pathway to the front of the stage - and the audience roared as he said 'Hello Melbourne' and started straight into 'Crunchy Granola'!!!!!!  I thought the roof of the arena was going to lift off with the emotion we were all feeling.  Neil as always, held us in the palm of his hand from the second he appeared on stage - and also as always, gave us 110% of himself over the next two hours.....

I still won't give away the set list in case there's anyone reading this who doesn't know and wants to be surprised when they get to see Neil later in the year - if indeed he keeps the same set list as we hear that his new CD will be released before the US leg of the tour, so there could be some changes then to introduce a new song or two...

But I will say that some of the songs he treated us to I hadn't heard live in concert before and he did them brilliantly...  The whole concert was fantastic, and the shots of Neil and the band - and at times the audience - on the huge screens were wonderful.  The mix of slow and fast songs was perfect - just when we were needing a break from dancing and singing along, Neil slowed things down for us - I guess he was in need of a little slowing down too :-}

All too soon it was over, but knowing I was coming back again the following two nights and then heading off to Adelaide on Friday with Jude, Lissa & Aurea for the Saturday concert there, and then back to Melbourne for the final concert here on Monday, made it easier than usual to accept that the concert was over.....for tonight...
