Proudly introducing "Aussi"

Aussi has grown into a most handsome boy. Delian decided to have him sterilised, something that I was not in favour of mainly because it is very hard to keep the weight off sterilised dogs and it would be very important to keep Aussi slim.
Here is a photo at nearly two and half years old with his best mate, Zena.

Aussi's hips sadly continued to degenerate, despite a course of cartrophen and other aids, so the orthopaedic surgeon, Wingtip Wong, was unable to carry out the pelvis reconstruction surgery. Instead he performed a bilateral hip denervation procedure. This surgery involves the transaction of the sensory nerve supply to the hip joint and although it doesn't fix his hip problem, he should have a pain free life. Eventually he may need a complete hip replacement.
Below a photo taken after the surgery.

Aussi is now 13 months old in these photos. He met up with his favourite girl friend, Rasta and Cora at the beach.

I don't want to stand here looking poncy! I wanna PLAY in the sea with the girls!!!

"Oooooh!" Says Cora, "what's this?" "Nah," replies Aussi, "I only got eyes for Rasta!"

At last, play time!

Finally out of "jail", Aussi has settled in really well with his new family. He is spending a few days with Georgia and immediately fell in love with Rasta (Hochspitz Sirocco)

And there was a great gnashing of teeth!
All that playing is really tiring...time for a cuddle

At Long last Aussi has finally arrived in Australia and suffered no ill effects from his long journey. In Germany he received another excellent critique at the club show in Leonberg with the judge commenting on his outstanding temperament.
Below a couple of pics of his first day in quarantine with his new "foster" parents, Lori and Delian.

Oooooh, yum! Chicken wing!

I have had just no time to update Ozzie's ( He has had a name change as Hein and Metha call him "Aussi" with the softer s sound) page, but he has been a busy boy. In Denmark and Spain he bombed out at the club shows. He had turned into a skinny giraffe, hehe! But back in Belgium he managed a very creditable 2nd place out of 6 pups and is starting to show a lot of promise again.
Everyone who meets him on his travels tells me what an absolutely amazing temperament he has and for me that is the most important aspect in a Leonberger. Aussi has one more "grand excursion" to Leonberg before coming to Australia. Leonberg Show rules are a bit peculiar in that the minor puppies are shown with with the 9-12 pups and don't qualify to win anything anyway. But it will be nice to hopefully get a good critique and a "Very promising". Aussi's breeder tells me she hopes to travel to Leonberg also to see him once more. Milada also sent me this lovely photo of Aussi's sister, Apolenka and his mother, Barunka.

Ozzie is off travelling around Europe again. He spends a couple of days with Marjan & Laurent at "'t Berggat" in Belgium where he quickly makes new friends. Next stop is Denmark for the special Danish Leo club show where 10 baby puppies are entered.

Even "grumpy matriarch", Zannekin can't resist Ozzie's charms!

At not yet 4 months old Ozzie is already a seasoned traveller. Hein and Metha took him to Italy, Austria and Switzerland where he made his debut in the show ring at the three club shows. At all 3 shows he was the only baby male (and the youngest Leo) and therefore won best baby boy each time, hehe! But he did get great critiques and was awarded the "Very Promising" rating.

Ozzie has to wear socks! The other day he tore a rear dew claw and had to undergo surgery to have it removed. Sensibly the other claw was removed at the same time. It doesn't seem to be slowing him down though!

Metha keeps a watchful eye.....
But,"Catch me, if you can, Rhupy!" is such fun.

Hein tells us Ozzie can make a right nuisance of himself with the girls when they want to sleep and he still wants attention and play. If ignored for too long he was caught de-stuffing a mattress on a bed! Pictured here at 3 months old with Luna and Paula

Ozzie started the first leg of his long journey to Australia on the 17th March 2007. He is to stay with Hein and Metha in France until he is old enough to come here.
