Botanic Gardens and the Rocks

Train to Wynyard. Walk through Royal Botanic Gardens to Mrs Macquarie's Chair. After morning tea, walk to the Rocks vis Opera House and Circular Quay. After lunch, visit the Sydney Observatory. Return by train from Wynyard station.

Parramatta Park

Train to Wynyard; Rivercat to Parramatta city. Walk part of Parramatta river then on to Parramatta Park for lunch and viewing of historic sites. Return by train from Parramatta station. (By bus direct to Epping as an alternative.)

Taronga Zoo wharf to Cremorne Point via Mosman Wharf.

 Train to Wynyard, ferry to Taronga Zoo Wharf. Walk via Sirius Cove Reserve to Mosman Bay wharf, stopping at points of interest on the way. Lunch at Mosman wharf environs. Following, continue walk past rowers club and the Lex & Ruby Graham Gardens to Cremorne Reserve/Point. Return to Epping/Cheltenham by ferry/train. (Note that the first part of this walk from Taronga Zoo Wharf to Mosman Wharf includes a number of steps, wooden and stone with some a little demanding. Many points of interest though and great views of the harbour and city.)

Waverton to Circular Quay

 Train to Waverton, Walk the shores of the inner harbour – some street work – via Berry Bay, McMahons Point to Lavender Bay. Lunch in Wendy Whitley’s garden, From this point, a choice can b e made to proceed home via train from Milson’s Point, or to walk adross the Harbour Bridge to the city then home by train.

Taronga Zoo Wharf to Balmoral

Trains to Circular Quay then ferry to Taronga Zoo Wharf. via Bradley’s Head, Taylor Bay, Sydney Harbour National Park to Chowder Bay/Clifton Gardens. This section of the walk is relatively easy. For those who wish to do so, an early lunch here then return home bus and train. For those hardier souls, walk to Georges Heights for lunch then on to Balmoral Beach home by bus and train from Chatswood. (Note that it is a stiff climb up out of Chowder Bay, some flat going till Georges Heights, than steep down but easy going to Balmoral Beach)

Wetlands of Bicentenial Park. (The heart of Homebush Bay)

 Train to Concord West. From there we face an easy 6.5k walk, including a network of walkways through 60 hectares of wetlands which has something for everyone; bird hides, boardwalks, observation towers, picnic areas, shipwrecks and numerous water features. (Note: and if we make good time, we may be able to include a walk through the "Brickpit Ring Walk" More about that later!

Everglades Gardens – Leura

Train to Strathfield; change at Strathfield for Leura. From Leura Station we enjoy morning tea then walk to the Everglades Gardens (Note that there is cost of $5.00 to enter the gardens.) A brief walk, BYO lunch and a further brief walk through the gardens then we take a different route back to the station and home. (Note: there is a restaurant available for visitor use . prices are a little high, coffee available.)

South Head and the Gap

Trains to Circular Quay, ferry to Watson’s Bay. Walk to South Head with the following highlights on the way: Doyles catering outlets, a giant cannon, left over from the threat of a Russian Invasion. A marker commemorating the fixing point of WW11 anti-Japanese submarine nets, several old cannon emplacements, South Head light house, the Gap and surrounds. Following the walk, we are back at Watsons Bay in time for you to choose to either stay on for lunch –BYO or Doyles Restaurant / Takeaway and/or either more sight-seeing, or whether to leave for home on the first available ferry.

Rose Bay, Nielson Park and Vaucluse

 Train to Town Hall, change for Bondi Junction, bus to Rose Bay, Walk Rose Bay, Nielson Park, Vaucluse. Lunch at Nielson Park. Return by bus and train.

You can choose to return home from Nielson Park or take time to visit either the gardens of Vaucluse House (free) or pay to view the interior. Return by either there or by walking up to the village of Vaucluse and catching the bus back to the Bondi Interchange then trains home.


Walks are held 4th Thursday of the month. Unless otherwise instructed, meet at 2nd front carriage of the train.
Please bring your morning tea, lunch, adequate drinks and protection from the sun, wind and rain and wear appropriate footwear.
