Guided tour of old Darlinghurst Gaol

For our November outing we will take a guided tour of the old Darlinghurst Gaol site, now the National Art School. Construction at the site began in 1822, and it operated as a gaol between 1841 and 1912, after which prisoners were transferred to Long Bay. Notorious prisoners hanged there included bushrangers and a female poisoner. During WW1 the site was used as an internment camp, and in 1922 it became a technical college.

After the tour we will proceed to the Bowlers club to again sample their highly regarded smorgasbord lunch.

We will meet at Epping station to catch the 9:26 train from platform 1, changing at Central to a 311 or 378 bus in Eddy Avenue.

The cost for the tour and lunch will be $30.
