Thursday 26 October 2006

The walk on Thursday 26 October follows a succession of coastal inlets, cliffs and beaches in the Eastern Suburbs, from Bronte to South Coogee.

We assemble at Epping Station for the 8.54 am train to Town Hall, changing for Bondi Junction, to then board a bus to Bronte Park and beach for morning tea.

We set out via Galga Reserve, briefly stopping for a small diversion into Waverley Cemetery to observe the distinctive graves of a few famous people. From there we Burrows Park and Bundock, Clovelly Beach and pool, to Gordons Bay, where small boats are chained on racks.

We continue through Dunningham Reserve to Dolphin Point, now the site of a memorial to the victims of the Bali bombing. On this point, Giles Baths still remain as we turn towards Coogee Beach. After lunch we move into Grants Reserve where two other famous baths are noted, McIvers Baths (ladies only) and Wylies Baths, the latter being opened in 1907 by champion swimmer Henry Alexander Wylie. After passing through Trenerry Reserve, the walk rises to Malabar Road, where we board a bus to Central Station and a train home.
