Thursday 23 July 2009
Our walk for July will be a little more strenuous than those we have undertaken to date this year, certainly the final phase from Chowder Bay/Clifton Gardens to Balmoral.
We assemble at Epping station on Thursday 23 July 2009 for the 8.38am train to Wynyard where we switch on to the train to Circular Quay.
From there we embark on the 10.15am ferry to the Taronga Zoo Wharf. On arrival we turn right up the hill and take the path to Bradley’s Head where we will enjoy morning tea and some great views of the city and harbour.
Following, we move off to Chowder Bay/Clifton Gardens; once there we can choose to stop for lunch and a walk through the gardens prior to proceeding home by bus and train, or those of us who prefer to do so can take the path to Balmoral, stopping off at the crest – Georges Heights - for lunch prior to moving on to Balmoral.
On this stage of the walk we will take in some art/sculpture, see some historic old navy buildings and navy gun and enjoy a walk along the Balmoral Beach waterfront; bus and train home via Chatswood.
Note that this is described as an easy walk; I had to stop and take a breather twice on the uphill part of the last stage from Chowder Bay to Balmoral!!
