OUTINGS

July

The July outing on Monday 18th will be a visit to Harris Park for a guided tour of Our Lady of Lebanon Church in the morning, and after lunch, a guided tour of Elizabeth Farm. Lunch will be a buffet at the Rosehill Bowling Club. Travel will be by car pool and we will meet outside the church at 10:45am for an 11:00am tour. There should be adequate parking in the adjacent streets.

Our Lady of Lebanon Church recently celebrated its 25 years at Harris Park by winning the Parramatta City Council award for Contribution to Social and Cultural Heritage. The church is part of the Australian Maronite Catholic Church network, and is the focal point and place of worship for Maronite Catholics in the western suburbs.

Elizabeth Farm was commenced in 1793 and contains part of the oldest surviving European building in Australia. Built as the home of John and Elizabeth Macarthur, it was the birthplace of the Australian wool industry and an important social, political and cultural centre in the early Colony. It has deep shady verandahs which became the prototype for the Australian homestead, and is set in a re-created 1830s garden containing plants from the period. The interiors contain reproductions of furniture, portraits and objects belonging to the Macarthurs.

Many will remember our last visit to Rosehill Bowling Club where we enjoyed the ‘all you can eat’ buffet.

Cost for the day will be $15.00 for entries and lunch.
