Monday 21st April 2008

A coach tour has been arranged for our outing on 21st April. We will visit the Ebezener district, near Windsor, and lunch at the Richmond Club, Richmond.

The Ebenezer Uniting Church was built in 1809 and is our oldest existing church and a living part of Australia’s history. It was the first Presbyterian Church in Australia. It is also the oldest existing school building. We have arranged a Devonshire morning tea, and a guided tour and talk on the history of the church.

A short distance away is the Tizzana Winery, a touch of Tuscany on the banks of the Hawkesbury River, where we will have a wine tasting and historical talk. Dr Thomas Fiaschi was a leading Australian surgeon and Consulting Honorary Surgeon to Sydney Hospital, outside which there is a bronze boar in memory of him. He purchased the land at Ebenezer and established a small winery there in 1882. It was restored after a fire in the 1950’s by the Auld family and has much of the memorabilia from the period of the Fiaschi winery.

Lunch will a two course meal at The Richmond Club, Richmond, before returning to Epping mid afternoon.

The coach will depart as usual from the West Epping Panthers Bowling Club. Assemble at 8:15am for an 8:30am departure.

Cost for the day is $35 per head. The coach is a 37-seater so bookings will be restricted to a maximum number of 37 and will be on the basis of ‘first in best dressed’.
