This month’s outing is on 20 November 06 and will be a train and bus trip to the Powerhouse Museum in Ultimo.

We will assemble at Epping station to catch the 9.09 am train to the city Town Hall station, where we transfer to a bus for the Museum, at 500 Harris Street, and to arrive there before 10.30 am.

We had a tour in November 05 but, for half a day, only managed to cover trains at the Powerhouse. For this tour we will be covering more exhibits at other levels, including the recently restored Strasburg Clock & a guided tour from 10.30 to 11.15 am.

Lunch is at the Powerhouse Museum Café (Santos).

After lunch we continue our tour in the museum on the exhibition of ‘The Great Wall of China’ that features the following:

• History of the Great Wall: From inception (discontinuous long walls) by warring states to the Ming Dynasties walls north of Beijing.

• Extraordinary exhibits such as a life-sized terracotta warrior from the mausoleum of China’s first emperor, Qin Shihuang; a gold headdress ornament worn by a noble woman; and an exquisitely painted Ming dynasty plan of a section wall outside Beijing.
• Breathtaking photographic panorama, 12 meters wide, of the Great Wall in large detail.
• Interesting themes on the construction and military functions of the long walls, the cultures of the people who lived around them and the introduction of Buddhism that follow the Silk Road route along the walls.

Cost for the day is $20.00 per person plus fares and drinks if required.
