Monday 27th July 2009

Due to track work this outing, initially planned for Monday the 20th, has been postponed and will now proceed on the 27th

Our last couple of July outings have consisted of a train trip to the Blue Mountains for lunch at a Blackheath hotel, and whilst these have proved very popular with our members, we thought that this year we would try the sea side instead of the mountains, so we are taking a train trip to Kiama.

Kiama is a very historic township being first settled in 1832 as a centre for cedar getters. Today its economy is based on tourism, dairying and blue metal quarrying.

Apart from the famous blowhole and nearby lighthouse and pilot’s cottage, there is a heritage walk of the town featuring a number of buildings from the second half of the nineteenth century. Unfortunately because of our train times we will have limited time for the heritage walk.

We will have lunch at the Kiama Bowling & Recreation Club, which is not far from the Railway Station. The Club will put on a buffet meal, with desserts, for us.

Meet at Epping Station at 8:00am to catch the 8:10am interurban to Central where we connect with the 9:07am train to Kiama, arriving at Kiama shortly before mid-day. There will be time for a coffee at Central. The return train at 1:53pm will have us back at Epping just before 5:00pm.

Cost for the day is $15.00.
