Monday 19th May 2008

Something a little different in May. Our outing will be a guided tour of the Museum of Human Disease in the School of Medical Sciences , Faculty of Medicine, University of New South Wales.

This museum is a centre of excellence in promoting good health in the community. It has an extensive collection of pathology specimens and displays, giving an insight into the workings of the human body. Discover first hand the effect of such conditions as stroke, heart disease and cancer.

The programme for the morning will be an introductory presentation by a museum educator, followed by an examination of diseased organs, then an opportunity to view the displays in the museum.

A recent exhibition at the museum, "Gutsy Stuff", was described as ‘a guts and all expose of bellyaches, blockages, food fibre and flatulence, strangulated hernias, motions and potions from gullet to guts’. Part of this exhibition will be on display.

WARNING: Some individuals may be sensitive to the display of human tissue and this outing may not be suitable.

At the conclusion of the museum visit we will take a short bus trip to Bondi Junction for lunch at the Bondi Junction-Waverley RSL Club.

Travel will be by train and bus. We take the 8:38am Epping to Central and transfer to a fast bus to the University at Kensington.

Cost for the day is $22.50.
