Monday 18th August 2008
The August outing on 18th will be a guided tour of LINDESAY, one of the National Trust’s feature properties. It was built in 1834 by the Colonial Treasurer Campbell Riddell and named after Colonel Sir Patrick Lindesay who was Acting Governor of the Colony in 1831.
Step back into the gracious life of early Sydney. Georgian interiors with fine Australian and English furniture of the period are complemented by an elegant parterre garden and well tended grounds with uninterrupted views of the Harbour. Below stairs the stone kitchen, servants’ quarters and freshwater well are reminiscent of an earlier time.
Morning tea or coffee with home made scones or biscuits will be served on arrival, and a guided tour of the property will follow. Your entry cost to Lindesay will help the National Trust care for the property for future generations.
Lunch will be at Bondi Junction-Waverley RSL Club where we had an excellent meal after our May outing. We will transfer to Bondi Junction by bus from Darling Point.
We will be offering two transport options to get to Lindesay. For the early starters the visit will include a 40 minute ferry trip on the Harbour. The second option is by train and bus. Please indicate your intended travel mode when booking.
Those taking the ferry will meet at Epping Station at 8:00am to catch the 8:10am Inter-urban train to Central before transferring to Circular Quay to catch the 9:20am ferry to Darling Point. For the later train, meet at Epping at 8:30am to catch the 8:38am to Town Hall where we will change to the Eastern Suburbs line to Edgecliff, connecting with the 327 bus to Darling Point.
Cost for the day is $20.00.
