October

Our outing for October is on 17th and is a visit in the morning to the Sydney Jewish Museum, followed by lunch at the Bondi Junction – Waverley RSL Club, and an afternoon visit to an exhibition on the French navigator La Perouse, at the State Library.

It is six years since Epping Probus last visited the Sydney Jewish Museum, located at Darlinghurst. The visit takes the form of a 10 minute introductory film, then a guided tour for up to two hours. The Museum is dedicated to documenting and presenting the history of the Holocaust. It also features the Australian Jewish experience from the early days of settlement in Sydney. This is a Museum to make you think, and shouldn’t be missed.

After a bistro lunch at the Bondi Junction – Waverley RSL Club, we return to the city for a look at the exhibition ‘Any News of La Perouse’ on at the State Library. The exhibition presents documents and other historical material relating to La Perouse who vanished in the Pacific more than 200 years ago, after exploring the east coast of Australia. There are also shipwreck items from La Perouse’s ships on loan from the Laperouse Museum.

Assemble at Epping station at 8:30am to catch the 8:38am train to Town Hall station. There will then be a short walk to the corner of Park & Elizabeth Streets to catch the 389 bus to Darlinghurst.

Cost of the day is $18.00 per person, plus fares.
