Monday 17th March 2008

In March our outing will be a guided tour of the Egyptian Room in the Royal Arch Temple at the United Supreme Grand Chapter of Mark and Royal Arch Masons of NSW and the ACT, located at Petersham, a short distance from Petersham Station.

Step back in time into ancient Egypt and the land of the Pharoahs. See and hear the story of Ani the Scribe who lived 3400 years ago and whose story is told on a frieze depicting scenes from the papyrus Scroll of Ani which was found at Thebes in 1888.

The Egyptian Room originally formed part of the Royal Arch Temple in College Street Sydney until the building was demolished in the 1960’s. In its present location it has been classified and registered by the National Trust.

Lunch will be taken at the nearby Petersham RSL Club, where the menu will contain an interesting mix of Australian and Asian meals.

After lunch we will walk a further short distance to the Petersham Town Hall History Centre where we will have an illustrated presentation by the Marrickville Council Historian, Chrys Meader.

Travel will be by train. We take the 9:27am inter-urban fast train to Strathfield then change to the all stations line to Petersham.

Cost for the day is $20.
