Guided tour of St Marys Cathedral
The cathedral occupies a magnificent site in Sydney, although its founders would have preferred a site further west. The foundation stone for the origional St Marys was laid in 1821, but the building was destroyed by fire in 1865. The foundation stone for the present cathedral was was laid in 1868, but the spires were not completed until 2000.
We will participate in an extensive history tour of the cathedral and crypt, and then enjoy a short talk by Warwick Revell, who will point out woodwork with whose installation and renovation he has been extensively involved.
Afterwoods we will proceed to the highly regarded Bowlers Club for a smorgasbord lunch.
We will meet at Epping station to catch the 8:49 train from platform 5. We will change at Wynyard for a train to St James.
Cost: $27.50 for the tour and lunch.
