DAY OUTINGS

15th May 06 – Royal Australian Navy Heritage Centre, Garden Island

This month the outing is on 15 May 06 and will be a train and ferry trip to the RAN Heritage Centre at Garden Island with a return ferry trip via Watsons Bay.

We will assemble at Epping station to catch the 8:54 a.m. train to the city and then catch a ferry at Circular Quay Ferry Terminal, Wharf 2, to Garden Island.

We will visit two National Estate listed buildings, the Gun Mounting Workshop (1922) and the Boatshed (1913), that provide the setting for the exhibition of the Naval Heritage Collection – artifacts of Navy’s history and many items on display that have never been seen by the public, in The Tigira Room and Special Exhibition Gallery.

The Public Precinct contains a number of relics from Garden Island’s long history.

The ex-Main Signal Building, which once controlled the movement of naval vessels in and out of the harbour, has had its roof converted to a viewing platform and provides a spectacular 360 degree view of Sydney Harbour.

At the end of the tour we will lunch at the the Salthorse Café in the Garden Island precinct.

After lunch we have the option of returning directly to Circular Quay, or we can do a round ferry trip to Watsons Bay and return to the Quay, before catching the train back to Epping.

Cost for the day is $15.00 per person plus fares and drinks if required.
