Monday 15th March 2010

Our outing this month will be a coach trip on 15th March to the Kurrajong Radio Museum and the Hawkesbury Regional Museum. We will have morning tea on arrival at the Radio Museum, followed by our guided tour. For lunch we return to the Richmond Club where we enjoyed a meal a couple of years ago. A visit to the Hawkesbury Regional Museum after lunch completes the day.

The Kurrajong Radio Museum is privately funded and operational radios and other equipment will be demonstrated, including a collection of ex-military communication equipment. Part of the museum is ‘hands on’ allowing you to try Morse keys, teleprinters etc. Look into a radio station broadcast control room. A special display is the AWA room, from a company which was once a leader in the technology. A dose of nostalgia is guaranteed from a time when radio was ‘king’.

The Hawkesbury Regional Museum in Windsor provides a cultural facility located on one of the oldest land grants in Australia, and preserves and displays the history of the area as well as demonstrating the indigenous cultural heritage of the Darug people. The themes of the museum are River, Land, and People.

Transport will be by private car. Please advise Wal Gallagher if you wish to car pool. The tour of the Radio Museum commences at 10.00 am. The Museum is located at 842 Bells Line of Road, Kurrajong Hills. Parking is limited. As there is only one toilet at the Kurrajong Museum it is suggested that you pause in Richmond for comfort stop. We expect to return to Epping around 4:00pm.

Cost for the day is $40 per person.
