Cowra & Young - 23 – 25 November 2018
It’s 7 years since we visited Young at cherry time (in the rain, for those who remember picking cherries with water running down their arms) so I have booked this short tour of 3 days 2 nights in November for an all-inclusive price of $550 per person twin share (single supplement $120). The itinerary follows:
Friday 23rd November. Day 1 – Depart Epping for Cowra, stopping for morning tea at Govetts Leap Lookout, and lunch in Blayney. A drive past the Blayney Wind Farm follows before arrival at the Cowra Visitors Centre for a hologram story of Cowra. A local guide joins us for a town tour taking in the Australian Peace Bell, the Japanese POW Breakout site, the War Cemeteries, and the decorated bridge pylons. Check in to the Cowra Motor Inn for dinner.
Saturday 24th November. Day 2 – Travel to Young and the Lambing Flat Museum to learn the history of the area, then on to the Chinese Tribute Gardens for morning tea. Learn more of Australia’s heritage with a visit to Iandra Station and Mt Oriel Homestead. Return to Cowra for lunch at the Japanese Gardens Café and some time to explore the beauty and tranquillity of the 5 hectares of gardens, featuring Edo Cottage, a Tea House and a Bonsai House. Return via Bellevue Hill Lookout for scenic views of Cowra and dinner at a local Cowra Club.
Sunday 25th November. Day 3 – Return to Young for a visit to a fudge factory with many different items to taste and buy. At Ballinclash we pick and pay for cherries off the tree before departing for home, with a lunch stop in Yass.
