1 | One of the
control room's greatest assets was our MCI Model 636 analogue mixing desk
with JH600 automation which was coupled with our Otari MTR-90 tape
machine and various digital recorders. The MCI was a very poplar desk throughout the
world during the late 70s and 80s. If they couldn't justify the cost of Neve, or
latterly, SSL, but still needed a serious mixing desk, then a large number of studios went
down the MCI path! (have a close look at the mixing desk) or (have a VERY close look at the mixing desk) This desk comes with $750 worth of patch cords - extender board for easy maintenance of all modules - partially dissembled channel for spare parts including ICs - full manuals/parts lists/manufacturer's recommendations for many modifications. |

8 | Transformerless microphone pre-amplifiers
of magnificent performance. (This is not sales talk!) Based on the
Valley People Trans-Amp
module, these versions have been built "in house" using the
recommended card layout and
components. Transient response and THD
specifications are
excellent. Provision for phantom power .. mic/line input .. phase reversal ..
overload led. (Front
panel view.) The cards are plug in, so you can readily fit them to your own metal work if the present panels are not suitable. All application notes and schematics will go with any module you purchase. Click on the above underlined phrases for a look at technical details etc. |

1 | One of the smoothest of the vintage echo rooms was provided by an echo plate. Even though some top end digital reverbs have a good facsimile of this wonderful sound, none can truly replicate the sweet analogue reverb of this fascinating piece of equipment. This American "ECO PLATE" unit is a copy of the original European units, and is these days particularly rare. Variable reverb time is achieved by altering the distance between the metal plate and the damping bat .. simple but effective! Send and receive transducers at various places on the reverb. plate itself do the business. The picture shows the Eco-Plate "undressed" ... it is rather difficult to make a grey wooden box look like the superb echo unit it is <grin> | SOLD |

| 1 | Marshall Time Modulator - Model 5402 - a Vintage
Classic Lots of engineers know these remarkable units. It certainly was a beloved piece of gear! Here's a brief history and description of what the MTM does. The MTM is an analogue effects unit that Steve Marshall developed in the late 70's. It doesn't truly modulate time; you can't go back and buy Apple stock for $15. It does modulate and manipulate audio delay time, producing many unique and amazing effects. The input signal passes through two analogue delay lines. The delay time is adjusted by manual control, a wide range LFO circuit, or (for most effects) a combination of the two. Dry and delayed signal are combined, with feedback added to taste. This simplified description may sound quite dull, but the sounds produced by the MTM are utterly amazing. Effects include vibrato, positive flange, negative flange, cardboard tube echo, automatic double (and triple) tracking with pitch and delay dithering, resonant flange, circus vibrato, arpeggio, pitch quantizing, and many more. The MTM was used to create Darth Vader's voice in Star Wars, and was used on many hit records. |

1 pair |
A Pair of 18
Watt valve (tube) amplifiers Their original purpose was as good quality monitor speaker drivers for Australian Broadcasting Corporation radio studios and control rooms, and they were built with robust specifications that you would expect of the ABC. The valve complement is not exotic - all are available (and likely to remain so) should spares be required. Circuit diagrams go with the units. Take a closer look at the nicely built "innards" and front panel. Being rack mounted, the "under chassis" components are accessible without removing the unit, as is the screw driver level adjusting pot. Panels are removed by spring quarter turn finger operated catches. During their life with Hadley Records they were rather wasted in use as headphone drivers, although it must be said they were very effective, and the musos appreciated the clean, warm sound. |

| SAE Impulse Noise reduction processor. This is actually an analogue processor! I used it effectively on 78rpm record restoration and click removal of individual clicks on single tracks on 1 and 2 inch multi-track master tapes. It's design purpose was as a home click remover for the high-fi enthusiast who in real time could get rid of blemishes he/she got upset about!! That made it ideal for Long Play microgroove transfers when making up compilation albums where the master tapes were not available as with many of the custom recordings I was commissioned to prepare. |
