RT3496 and RT113 at Classic Automotion 1997
RT3496 (LYR915) belongs to Dave and Pam Johnson of Leighton Buzzard,
Bedfordshire. Dave was one of the driving forces behind a campaign to 'preserve' the
old LT garage at St. Albans, one of the Holden/Pick art deco buildings of the '30s.
Hence the adverts on the bus. The bus was beautifully repainted externally in 1998
and is the only green roof box model in preservation. It also has export springs, and is a
very lively ride!
RT3496 is in company with the 2RT2 Preservation Group's pre-war RT113 (FXT288) seen in
1997 at "Classic Automotion," an annual meet organised by a number of
co-operating historic vehicle movements, with the idea to create a mobile rally rather
than static rows of vehicles.
Classic Automation is held at the Department of Transport's test ground at Crowthorne,
between Reading and Bracknell.
