Andrew ROGERSON.

Andrew ROGERSON was born in 1838. He died on 19 Mar 1911 in Broomhills, Wamphray, Dumfries, Scotland. Died of Spleen cancer Andrew and Margaret Rogerson had a home in the early part of the century at Broom Hills in Annan at the east end of the Solway Firth in Scotland. Andrew was a mason when he married Margaret Tait on July 4, 1866 in Maxwelltown, Dumfries, Scotland. Andrew & Margaret had the following children:

The Dumfriesshire Valuation Rolls indicate that Andrew and John Rogerson (probably brothers as opposed to Andrew and his son, John) assumed the tenancy of the Amisfield Townfoot farm from an A.A. Douglas M.P. in the year 1907/08. Their listed home address is listed as Broomhills Gretn, so they were not living on the farm at that time.

In 1920/21, the estate has a new owner, a Viscount Chilston. The Rogerson tenancy is listed as Andrew Rogerson and the Trustees of John Rogerson. This is a bit confusing, since both Andrew and his brother, John, died in 1911 and Andrew's son, John lived until 1928.

From 1930/31 through 1950/51, the owner is listed as James L. Johnstone and the tenant is listed as David Livingston Rogerson. In 1960/61 and 1970/71, the owner remains James L. Johnstone, and the tenant is David's son, John Rogerson.

Andrew Rogerson died from spleen cancer on March 19, 1911 at Broomhills Gretn. He was a farmer and was listed as 28 years old on his marriage records in April 6, 1866 and as 74 years old on his death registry. (Gravestone states his age as 76). That would establish his birth date
As about 1837. I was told that the military appropriated the Broom Hills property in Annan and Margaret and the family, which was still living at home, moved to a duplex house called Newlands, Lockerbie adjacent to the All Saints Church. The house was built in about 1895 and is still in excellent condition. (Later the address was renamed from Newlands to Ashgrove Terrace) .

He enlisted in the Army and rose to the rank of Captain.

After the War, he sold South Pikedale to Harold Rubin and purchased Glencolvin at Liston, NSW. He later sold Glencolvin and purchased Malakoff and Sam McCarrols (renamed Pearsby by his wife) which adjoined.

He later handed over these properties to his son John, and purchased a small property with a nice house on it from Mr. W. Legg about four miles fron Stanthorpe and named it Wamphray and remained there until his death on the 4th of April, 1968.
