MP Occultation of TYC 5783-1228 by 16 Psyche The video clip can be downloaded here. (3.5Mb) The video shows the mag 9.8 star wink out for 14 seconds to leave the 11.1 mag. asteroid in full view. The animated GIF file to the left was assembled from video grabs taken over 40 minutes centered on the occultation time and shows the appulse, occultation and recession of the asteroid with the star. |

MP Occultation of TYC 7380-00754 by 772 Tanete The video clip can be downloaded here. (2.3Mb) A night to remember. I had a 2 hour drive to get to the path and by the time I arrived the wind was gusting to 20 knots. I had no choice but to setup and use my van as a wind break. I managed to star hop to the target star as it was easily recognised in the little asterism shown at left. The wind jiggled the scope so much that it was impossible to follow a single star but this was no problem for the video camera. The video is best played as big as you can make it. Minor Planet Occultation of TYC 6854-00630 by 659 Nestor The video clip can be downloaded here. (3.0Mb). A larger chart can be retrieved here. 659 Nestor is a Trojan Asteroid in the Jupiter L4. It has a listed diameter of 109km, however I timed a chord of 147km. Obviously Nestor is somewhat bigger than previously known. |
