Ormiston Gorge

This place has a reputation for being one of the most scenic and colourful gorges in the MacDonnells.  Here we can follow a mile long red cliff, lined with huge ghost gums, or take a four mile trek into the Ormiston Pound, one of Australia's best wilderness trails! 

I distinctly remember the sense of discovery making my way along this gorge.  I kept getting the feeling we might look up and see a huge dinosaur rounding the bend ahead of us at any moment!  Something about the place suggests timelessness... It's as if we've walked through into the Twilight Zone where anything might happen!  Who remembers the Twilight Zone?
