| Look! Here come the flag bearers. They represent the Australian-New Zealand Army Corps - that's where the name ANZAC comes from...
Anzac always reminds me of those yummy oat biscuits we have called Anzac biscuits - they're so easy to make that I could cook them even as a young child. But it is really a very important day in the Australian calendar when we remember the brave men and women who fought and served in both world wars, and more recently the Vietnam War. It is particularly to commemorate the disastrous Gallipoli campaign in which many soldiers lost their lives thanks to a huge blunder, but the Australasian troops gained a reputation for honour and bravery throughout the world. As a child my favourite story was about Simpson and his donkey. This incredibly courageous man carried countless wounded soldiers to safety on his faithful donkey, before they too were killed in the fierce onslaught by the Turks who held an almost invulnerable position (at what is now called Anzac Cove in memory of that campaign which was doomed to failure from the beginning). Here come the vets...
And as a special treat for my friend Bob, we'll stay around just long enough to watch one more group before we go and get something to eat...
