Ladies and Gentlemen.......

The Australian Jethro Tull Page

Tull finally come back to Australia!

It was worth the wait, and hopefully we won't have to wait so long for a return trip. The Sydney shows sold out fairly quickly. Strangely, they put on show before the date of the first, so people that bought their tickets last saw Tull first. I suppose they were really buying tickets to the sound check! The fact they sold 4 shows is amazing given they get no airplay on Australian radio or TV.

The Sydney concerts were held at the Enmore theatre, a great, cosy venue with bloody uncomfortable seats!

Here's the set list for May 3rd 2005. If anyone went to other nights and they differed let me know. I know in Melbourne the only change was a different Martin Barre solo track. Overall it was a good selection. I know there's always something that will be left out, but surprised there was nothing off Minstrel, Stormwatch, A, or any of the later albums like Dot Com. Would have liked Rare and Precious Chain. Perhaps Ian  thought we've been in a time warp and only wanted to hear the hits. Then again, for most Australians in regard to Tull we have. The performance was great, the highlight being Ian's flute and especially Martin Barre's guitar, which was as near perfect as any guitar set you'll hear. Bit worried about Ian's voice, he looked like he was having real troubles at time. As usual of course, it just wasn't enough after 14 years!!!!!

There's some great photos at Undercover magazine of the Melbourne concert.

Life's a long song (Living in the Past 1972) - nice version to start with. Pity about the idiots still arriving during the song.

Nothing Is Easy (from Stand Up, 1969) - great, never heard this live before!

Living In The Past (from Living in the Past, 1972)

God rest ye merry gentleman (from The Christmas Album, 2003)
Boris Dancing (from Ian Anderson The Secret Life of Bird, 2000)
Jack In The Green (from Songs from the Wood, 1976)
Thick As A Brick (from Thick As A Brick, 1972) - best edited version I've heard
Mother Goose (from Aqualung, 1971) - clever version, forgot how wacky this song is!
Bouree (from Stand Up, 1969)
Up To Me (from Aqualung, 1971)
Morris Minus (from Martin Barre's Stage Left, 2003)
Songs From The Wood (from Songs from the Wood, 1976)
Too Old To Rock 'n' Roll To Young To Die (from Too Old To Rock 'n' Roll, 1977)
Heavy Horses (from Heavy Horses, 1978) - played these 3 as a title track medley. Why not play them all.
Pavane (from The Christmas Album, 2003)
Hymn 43 (from Aqualung, 1971) - started this as an Irish folk song, but not sure it worked.
Farm on the Freeway (from Crest of a Knave, 1987) - excellent, one of the highlights.
Budapest (from Crest of a Knave, 1987)
Aqualung (from Aqualung, 1971) - i think Ian actually forgot a verse here!

Wind up/Locomotive Breathe (from Aqualung, 1971) - followed by Ian and his balloons while Cheerio and the intro of Black Sunday played.

My Tull Story:

In 1974, a thirteen year old boy( that is, me) lay huddled in bed with his crappy

transistor radio up against his ear and heard this strange music, full of driving

flute (yes flute), guitar riffs, time changes and weird lyrics. An incredible joy spread

throughout his body and he knew he had found music that spoke to him. This music

was the title track of Warchild by Jethro Tull. By the time Tull toured Australia in 1977

I had all the previous Tull albums and in the year 2000 I have them all still, and they are

still wonderful, and show that rock can be intelligent, lyrical, clever and for the brain as well

as for the heart. Tull fans in the US and Europe are spoilt by regular tours and news. For

Aussies, the Internet has finally given us access to a band that is continually ignored by

our media and rarely played on radio. Welcome to my Aussie Tull site. Go you good thing!
